Campbell Chiang, SD Network PresidentThe UCLA Alumni San Diego Network is the recipient of the 2020 UCLA Award for Network of the Year for its commitment to engage alumni and support for the campus’s mission of education, research and service. With more than 12,000 alumni in the San Diego area, the network provides alumni with opportunities to develop and nurture lifelong relationships. Founded in 1980, the Network is dedicated to enhancing the alumni experience for San Diego Bruins.

The San Diego Network hosts a variety of events in its efforts to engage a wide range of interests. They have offered career-focused panels to broaden knowledge concerning real estate, financial planning and health care. They have hosted speakers including Chancellor Carnesale and an array of notable faculty members for a local version of the UCLA Faculty Campus Connection and UCLA coaches including Coach Valorie Kondos-Field ’87, Billy Martin and John Savage. Their young alumni events also include an escape room and trivia night. San Diego alumni share their passion for UCLA at Dinner for 12 Strangers and gather to cheer on the Bruins at UCLA sports events. The Network is committed to serving their local community, participating in UCLA Volunteer Day, New Bruin Send-offs and, for nearly 20 years, volunteering annually at the San Diego Food Bank.

The Network also helps San Diego students achieve their dream of attending UCLA with a scholarship fund that recognizes local high school and community college students. The scholarship fund has grown to more than $930,000, and provides scholarship support for 27 students. The Network aims to increase its endowment fund to $1 million in an effort to encourage and assist an even larger number of local students.
