Edward Lew is recipient of the 2016 Volunteer of the Year Award. He exemplifies all that it means to be a True Bruin, representing all the values that UCLA strives to instill in each student as they graduate and pursue their personal and professional goals in the world as leaders.

He joined the board of the Asian Pacific Alumni of UCLA (APA UCLA) in 2010 as a way to give back to the UCLA community and later became president in 2014. He launched APA UCLA’s first fundraising gala honoring Randall Park ’97 - an event that brought together more than 250 UCLA staff, students, alumni and friends in support of APA UCLA's programs and initiatives, including awarding scholarship recipients.

Under his leadership, Lew has helped to develop leaders in the UCLA community, bringing new programs and renewing efforts to strengthen alumni engagement and alumni-student engagement. Beyond this, Lew has also encouraged involvement in the greater Los Angeles community supporting events like the Asian Pacific American Community Holiday Toy Drive and co-partnering on events with crosstown rivals, Asian Pacific Alumni Association of USC.

Lew graduated from UCLA School of Law, where he served as the editor-in-chief of the UCLA Asian Pacific American Law Journal (APALJ) and co-chair of the Asian Pacific Islander Law Students Association and Southern California Asian Pacific American Law Students Association.

Lew is assistant chief counsel at The Walt Disney Company. He currently serves on the Pro Bono Advisory Council of Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Los Angeles, on the advisory board of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Los Angeles County, as national vice president of the OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates, and as vice president of Outreach of the Asian Pacific American Friends of the Theater.

Lew has been recognized as “Best Under 40 Award” by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and received the Community Leadership Award by the Asian Pacific American Dispute Resolution Center.
