As Special Projects Editor at The Nation, Ludwig Hurtado oversees the publication's podcasts, YouTube content, and original series. The magazine's audience has grown drastically since Hurtado has assumed his role: When he started his role in 2022, for instance, podcast episodes were averaging at 350 downloads per episode. In 2024, that number is up to 12,000. He also launched "Elie Mystal's Contempt of Court," a podcast series on how to reform the Supreme Court. With Hurtado at the helm of its multimedia efforts, The Nation has acquired and syndicated existing media, too--including podcasts like "Tech Won't Save Us" and "American Prestige." Outside of his work at The Nation, Hurtado recently launched "Play," an independent zine about food and recipes from LGBTQ+ chefs, artists, and writers. And his first book, "Bad Foodies," will be published by Beacon Press and covers the sociopolitical and ethical aspects of food.
