Tyler Hsieh '16
U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Tyler Hsieh '16 recently joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in Washington, D.C., as a member of the clarinet section.
Hsieh began his musical training on clarinet at age 16. After graduating in 2012 from Lynbrook High School, he attended UCLA, where he studied under Michele Zukovsky and earned a bachelor’s degree in music performance. He continued his studies with Charles Neidich at the Mannes School of Music in New York, where he earned a master’s degree in clarinet performance in 2018. He has also earned a certificate in orchestral performance from the Manhattan School of Music while studying with Pascual Martínez-Forteza.
Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” Hsieh performed at the New York Shakespeare Festival and with the Montclair Orchestra in New Jersey.
Hsieh performs with the Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra at the White House, in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour.
Established by an Act of Congress in 1798, the United States Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Its mission is unique—to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
