Circumnavigation of Iceland

UCLA Distinguished Professor Glen MacDonald has travelled the globe uncovering evidence of climate change and its impacts on the environment and on human societies. He uses a variety of research techniques, ranging from satellite imagery, to historical documents, to fossils and geochemical records. This allows him to study the history of the Earth’s environments and people, as it happens today and back thousands of years into the past. The Arctic has been a particular research focus for Glen. He has worked on climate and its impacts on Arctic environments and peoples across northern Canada and Eurasia. His northern research has been recognized internationally through honors such as the University of Helsinki Medal and election as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Glen is an award-winning teacher and author, with academic experience in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States. Amongst his many honors is election to the National Academy of Sciences. He brings a unique international perspective and depth of scholarship to his lively lectures. Glen will share insights into Arctic ecology and how geography and climate have shaped the landscapes and ecosystems of the Arctic and Iceland, and influenced human history. He will also consider how current climatic changes are impacting the Arctic. Along the way Glen will share some of the adventures he has experienced during his many scientific expeditions in the far North.
