Spring Luncheon

On May 19, we hosted our first virtual FWC General Meeting with Dr. Shira Shafir of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, who addressed "Updates on COVID-19: What You Need to Know." Dr. Shafir is also the director of the Master of Public Health Professionals in the Department of Community Health Sciences and former assistant vice chancellor of research. Dr. Shafir serves as the director of field studies for the Department of Epidemiology, where she mentors students through the internship process to ensure they develop public health practice competencies to complement their methodologic training. An epidemiologist with expertise in neglected tropical diseases and infectious diseases of poverty, she holds an MPH in infectious diseases from UC Berkeley and a PhD in epidemiology from UCLA. Her postdoctoral fellowship, also at UCLA, was in global health.
