There are many ways to get involved with the UCLA Lambda Alumni Association. We are currently recruiting board members for 2021!

Member

If you attended UCLA, you can be a member of Lambda! As a member you are invited to attend any and all Lambda Alumni events such as social gatherings, professional panels, and community volunteering events. And feel free to bring your friends!

Be an active Member:

• Sign up for our Email List: To join the Lambda Alumni mailing list, and receive quarterly e-newsletters and monthly event updates, please send an email to lambda@alumni.ucla.edu with your name, email and class year.
• Connect: Stay updated and join our conversations on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram.
• Attend Lambda Events: To view our calendar of upcoming events, please click here.
• Volunteer for UCLA: Lambda members strive to have an impact on the greater UCLA community through volunteer involvement, such as serving as an alumni mentor or participating in Interview with a Bruin, or hosting Dinner for 12 Strangers.
• Leverage our Network: Lambda members help Lambda members. We hope you will seek support from our community of LGBTQ and ally Bruins and, in return, give support to those who may ask for help.

Please note that UCLA Lambda Alumni membership at any level is complimentary. We do not currently charge membership dues.

Volunteer

As a Member, you are also eligible to host or coordinate your own event (e.g., happy hour, dinner, fundraiser, etc.). You do not need to be a Los Angeles resident to be a member of Lambda or to host an event!

Additionally, we need Lambda volunteers to lead specific ad-hoc projects (design projects, film projects, programs, etc.). If you have a skill to share, or would like to lead an event or project, we'd love to hear from you.

Committee Member

Members are encouraged to increase their level of commitment to Lambda by joining one of our committees, which meet regularly in person or by teleconference to accomplish day-to-day operations of the organization. Committees are chaired by Lambda board members who will present the committee’s proposals to the board for approval. Our current committees include:

• Communications: Manage newsletters and communications with Lambda membership
• Engagement: Drives membership recruitment and retention. Fosters diversity and inclusion among the board, across Association programs, and among members
• Events: Plan social and professional events for LGBTQ+ Bruins and community members
• Fundraising: Raise funds for student scholarships and organizational operations
• Outreach: Recruit new members, foster intersectionality, and build organizational partnerships for the sustained growth of the group
• Student Support: Support prospective and current students through mentorship and scholarships

Board Member

Lambda board members attend board meetings in which they vote on all matters related to the organization, including approving the proposals of all committees. We ask that board members are currently sitting on at least one committee, but are welcome to sit on multiple committees and/or chair a committee. Board members must attend at least two Lambda Alumni events each year (unless they live out of town). New board members are elected by the current board quarterly. You do not need any formal leadership experience to become a Lambda board member. If you are enthusiastic about our organization, we want YOU on our board!

We are actively recruiting board members for 2021! And are particularly interested in board members of all backgrounds, identities and experiences.

We've come to understand that we need to attract and retain exceptionally well-qualified board members to sustain our mission. We are working hard to cultivate an internal organizational culture where the full diversity of our community is affirmed to be their authentic self.

You are always welcome to visit the UCLA LGBT Resource Center to see our 4000+ volume Rae Lee Siporin LGBT Library, our David Bohnett Cyber Center and the 1600 square foot home to our LGBTQ students at UCLA.
