Employment news for veterans: Veterans battling for the right job

Rocking Your LinkedIn Profile and Resume Workshop presented by Shawn Landreth, Feb 4, 2019

About the Facilitator

Prior to starting a career in high-tech, Landreth spent seven-and-a-half years in the Marines working as a communications expert in joint operations roles around the world. He is currently the senior manager of networking and communications at Capital Group, a private global investment firm, where he manages the teams responsible for global infrastructure, security and collaboration tools. He is a native of South Louisiana currently living in Southern California. He's a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a wannabe mountain biker and in constant pursuit of good Cajun food.

Presented as part of the Ready Aim Hire program in partnership with the UCLA Veterans Resource Center, the workshop will teach you how to maximize your military experience in your LinkedIn profile and resume, optimize LinkedIn to network and learn about LinkedIn benefits specific to veterans. (Premium membership free to vets)

"Ready, Aim, Hire!" is a three part series of events designed to assist student veterans in preparing to transition from student to career professional, utilizing both their military skills and academic successes. Student veterans also have the opportunity to engage with fellow student veterans and alumni, staff and faculty veterans to expand their social and professional network and create meaningful connections.

As graduating senior John Maldonado said "Of all the UCLA programs for vets this year, Ready, Aim, Hire! was the most important because while vets gain a wonderful education at UCLA, they’re still so often unable to translate their military experience into a civilian resume. Plus RAH exposes them to networking which is another gateway to meeting employers and making professional connections”.

Volunteer Spotlight:

In addition to pursuing his degree full time, John is part of the Air National Guard, following a 14 year career with the U.S. Air Force.
